IB 71 Movie Review: A Spy Thriller That Keeps You Guessing
IB
71 is a spy thriller that revolves around a secret mission that helped India
win the 1971 war against Pakistan and China. The film stars Vidyut Jammwal as
Dev, an intelligence officer who leads the operation, and Anupam Kher as
Avasti, his boss and mentor. The film is directed by Sankalp Reddy, who
previously made The Ghazi Attack.
The
film begins with a bang, as Dev receives crucial information about Pakistan and
China's plans to attack India within 10 days. He and Avasti come up with a
daring strategy to block the airspace and prevent the enemy from launching
their assault. Dev then sets out to execute the plan with the help of 30
undercover agents across the country.
The
film has an interesting premise and is based on true events that are not widely
known. The film tries to recreate the tense atmosphere of the 1971 war and the
challenges faced by the intelligence team. The film also boasts of some
stunning visuals, especially the aerial shots of Dal Lake and other locations.
However,
the film also suffers from some flaws that hamper its impact. The first half of
the film is confusing and disjointed, with too many flashbacks, voice-overs,
text captions and visuals that make it hard to follow the timeline and the
plot. The film also lacks clarity and coherence in its screenplay, which is
credited to six writers.
The
second half of the film picks up pace and becomes more engaging, as Dev's
mission unfolds and he faces various obstacles and enemies. The film also has
some twists and turns that keep you guessing till the end. The film also has
some patriotic moments that evoke emotions.
Vidyut
Jammwal delivers a decent performance as Dev, who is a smart and brave agent
who can also fight when needed. He steps out of his comfort zone of action
films and tries to portray a more nuanced character. Anupam Kher is impressive
as Avasti, who is a seasoned and supportive leader who guides Dev throughout
the mission. The rest of the cast does not have much scope to shine.
Overall,
IB 71 is a decent film to watch if you are a fan of spy thrillers and patriotic
films. The film has some gripping moments and a riveting story that will keep
you hooked. However, the film also has some flaws that could have been avoided
with better writing and editing.
